Step-by-Step Guide to Sourcing Wood Veneer Directly from a Chinese Factory

What to send Fuqiao Wood for a mill quote, how samples and production are separated, and what FOB, CIF, EXW and DDP mean on an order.

Send the specification

A factory quote needs the species, grade, thickness and quantity. Wholesale and project orders are the orders the mill prices. The reply is a formal quote within 24 hours.

Sample, then production

Ask for a sample of the species and grade when color or figure has to be approved. Production is a separate step, after the grade and thickness are locked.

Trade terms

The formal quote names the trade term and the port. The terms below are the standard meanings used in the sourcing guide. A quote for one order does not mean every term is offered on every shipment. Catalog lead time is 10–15 days. The homepage also notes “In Stock, Ships in 7 Days”. Use the quote as the lead time for the specification you send.

FOB: Free on Board. You take the goods from the named loading port. Freight and risk after that port sit with you.

CIF: Cost, Insurance and Freight. The quote includes ocean freight and insurance to the named destination port. Unloading and inland delivery after that port are separate.

EXW: Ex Works. You collect from the mill or the named place. Export clearance and freight are arranged by you, unless the quote says otherwise.

DDP: Delivered Duty Paid. The quote includes delivery to the named place with duties paid. The destination has to be named, because duty and inland cost change by country.

Ports, packing and documents

The mill is in Houjie, Dongguan. Published loading ports are Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Export orders use ISPM 15 packaging. Certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, FSC certification and a third-party test report are available on formal inquiry.
