Mill note

Plain Slice, Straight Grain, Quarter and Rift Cut

What the two catalog cuts show on the face, and how quarter and rift cuts are quoted when a project specifies them.

Plain slice

Plain slice is cut to show the cathedral, or crown, figure. Species pages list it as its own row in AA, AB and B.

Straight grain

Straight grain is the tighter, linear face of the same species. Order it when the panel should read as lines rather than as a crown.

Quarter and rift

Quarter and rift cuts are offered when the specification asks for them. They do not have their own rows next to plain slice and straight grain. Name the cut in the quote request.
